The pellet price in Germany in February increased slightly. As the German Energy Wood and Pellet Association (DEPV) reported that the average price is 241 EUR per tonne pellets in February. The price advantage over fuel oil remains close to 40 Percent.
Berlin, 17 February 2011. The pellet price in Germany in February increased slightly. As the German Energy Wood and Pellet Association (DEPV) reported that the average price is 241 EUR per tonne pellets in February. The price advantage over fuel oil remains close to 40 Percent. The index for the price of wood pellets is based on the query of pellet dealers from all over Germany. Central Germany have the lowest pellets price around 238 EUR per ton, southern Germany 243 EUR / t and most expensive are pellets in the northeast of Germany, 251 EUR / t. Manager Martin Bentley: "In addition to pellet quality the price for consumers is an important Indication of the reliability of the energy source. The current price shows that pellets despite the cold weather in December 2010 and in view of steep rise in commodity prices for the consumer remains stable. According to the DEPV there are about 140 000 pellet boilers/stoves in Germany. For 2011 DEPV forecast a further increase of 25,000 boilers. The consumption of wood pellets for 2011 is expected to 1.1 million tons and the domestic production 1.8 million tons. More than half of the pellets produced in Germany are certified with the new EN Plus, which is based on the European wood pellet standard EN 14961-2. With this certificate the consumers for the first time have the possibility to follow the pellets through the whole chain from production, transport to final supply. Anna Catherine Sievers
